Ponderosa
Cenote Diving · Playa del Carmen
Cenote Eden, also known as Ponderosa, is the quintessential Yucatan cenote experience — a place where the jungle, the sunlight, and the crystal-clear water come together in perfect harmony. Located about 20 minutes south of Playa del Carmen, this semi-open cenote is set in a lush jungle clearing with wooden platforms, cliff jumping spots, and dappled sunlight filtering through the canopy above. It is one of the most versatile cenotes in the region, equally spectacular for scuba diving, snorkeling, and simply swimming.
For divers, Cenote Eden offers a beautiful cavern system with wide passages, excellent natural light, and a mix of impressive formations. The cavern route winds through galleries of stalactites and stalagmites, with the halocline — the layer where fresh and salt water meet — creating a mesmerizing visual effect that makes the water appear to shimmer and ripple even though you are submerged. The maximum depth in the cavern zone is around 12 meters, keeping the dive comfortable and accessible for all certification levels.
What sets Cenote Eden apart is the surface experience. The jungle setting includes 5-meter cliffs that brave swimmers can leap from, picnic areas shaded by massive trees, and a natural garden atmosphere that makes the entire visit feel like a tropical paradise. Turtles and fish are commonly spotted in the open water sections, and the visibility is typically exceptional — often exceeding 50 meters in the cavern areas.
Cenote Eden is one of our most recommended cenotes for families and groups where some members want to dive while others prefer snorkeling or swimming. The cenote offers something incredible for everyone, and the relaxed jungle atmosphere makes the surface intervals between dives a pleasure rather than just a wait. It is also an excellent choice for Discover Scuba participants, as the shallow entry areas and calm conditions provide a perfect learning environment.
