The Caribbean's Best Reef Diving

The Mesoamerican Barrier Reef — the second largest in the world — runs along the entire Riviera Maya coast.

While the cenotes beneath the Yucatan jungle are extraordinary, the ocean diving along Mexico's Caribbean coast is equally spectacular in its own right. The Mesoamerican Barrier Reef stretches over 1,000 kilometers from the Yucatan Peninsula to Honduras, making it the second-largest barrier reef system in the world after Australia's Great Barrier Reef. The section that runs along the Riviera Maya offers some of the healthiest and most vibrant reef ecosystems in the Caribbean, with visibility regularly reaching 20-40 meters and water temperatures that never drop below 24 degrees Celsius.

Our ocean diving program covers three distinct destinations, each offering a different character and marine experience. Cozumel is world-famous for its dramatic drift dives, towering wall formations, and incredible visibility. Playa del Carmen offers quick access to reefs teeming with nurse sharks, turtles, and eagle rays. And Cancun is home to the unique MUSA underwater museum and seasonal bull shark encounters that draw divers from around the globe.

Three world-class locations, each with its own character and marine life.

Ocean diving in Cozumel, Mexico — reef diving on the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef
From $195

Cozumel

Jacques Cousteau's favorite Caribbean dive site. There are many reefs we go to around Cozumel — the location we make it to is weather dependant. On calm days we can make it all the way to Palancar, on rougher days we stay closer to the middle of the island. Drift through coral tunnels with visibility so clear you'll see 100+ feet. We take you direct by comfortable boat — no public ferry needed.

Ocean Diving — Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about diving the Caribbean reefs.

You need at least a PADI Open Water certification (or equivalent from another agency like SSI, NAUI, or CMAS). This allows you to dive to 18 meters. For deeper dive sites, an Advanced Open Water certification is recommended. If you are not certified, our Discover Scuba Diving program lets you experience ocean diving without any certification.

We take you to Cozumel by direct dive boat from Playa del Carmen's marina — no public ferry, no island transfers, no extra costs. We pick you up from your hotel, drive to the marina, board the dive boat, and head straight to the best Cozumel dive sites. This saves time, avoids the ferry crowds, and lets you dive sites that ferry-based operations miss.

The Mesoamerican Barrier Reef (the world's second largest) supports an incredible diversity of marine life including sea turtles, nurse sharks, eagle rays, moray eels, lobsters, barracuda, grouper, parrotfish, and hundreds of species of tropical reef fish. Depending on the season and location, you may also encounter bull sharks (November-March in Cancun/Playa), whale sharks (June-September), and manta rays.

All of our ocean diving trips include two guided dives (2-tank dive). Each dive lasts approximately 45-55 minutes depending on depth and air consumption. Between dives, you enjoy a surface interval on the boat with water and snacks. The full day from hotel pickup to drop-off runs about 5-6 hours.

We provide all diving equipment including BCD, regulator, wetsuit (3mm or 5mm), mask, fins, weights, tank, and a dive computer. If you prefer to use your own equipment, you are welcome to bring it. We recommend bringing your own mask and computer if you have them, as these are the most personal pieces of equipment.

Absolutely. Many of our guests do a cenote dive day and an ocean dive day during their trip. We can also create combination days where you dive a cenote in the morning and the ocean in the afternoon, though this requires planning and is subject to logistics. Tell us your dates and interests and we will design the perfect dive itinerary for you.
