Diving in Cozumel

Cozumel is consistently ranked among the top five dive destinations in the world, and once you slip beneath the surface of its turquoise waters, you will understand why. The island sits along the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef, and the currents that sweep along its western shore bring nutrients that support an astonishing diversity and density of marine life. The reef system here is characterized by towering coral walls that drop into the deep blue, massive barrel sponges that can be taller than a diver, and pristine hard and soft coral formations in every color imaginable. What makes our Cozumel trips uniquely convenient is our direct dive boat. Instead of navigating ferry schedules, queues, and island transfers, we pick you up from your Riviera Maya hotel, drive to Playa del Carmen's marina, and board our dive boat directly. Within 30 minutes you are gearing up over Cozumel's legendary reefs. This approach saves time, eliminates hassle, and lets us access dive sites that ferry-based operators miss. Cozumel's drift dives are a particular highlight. The gentle-to-moderate currents carry you effortlessly along the reef wall, creating a sensation of flying as you watch the underwater landscape scroll past. Eagle rays glide in the blue, sea turtles munch on sponges, nurse sharks rest under coral overhangs, and moray eels peer out from crevices. Every dive is different, and every dive is exceptional.

Cozumel Dive Sites

The best underwater spots we regularly visit.

Cozumel Diving — FAQ

Common questions about ocean diving in Cozumel.

We operate a direct dive boat from Playa del Carmen's marina to Cozumel's dive sites. There is no need for ferry tickets, queues, or island transfers. We pick you up from your hotel, drive to the marina, and head straight to the reefs by boat. The crossing takes about 30 minutes, and you are diving within the hour.

Cozumel's reefs are home to sea turtles (green and hawksbill), spotted eagle rays, nurse sharks, southern stingrays, green moray eels, spiny lobsters, barracuda, grouper, parrotfish, angelfish, and hundreds of species of tropical reef fish. Larger pelagics including bull sharks and whale sharks are seasonal visitors.

Open Water certification is sufficient for most Cozumel dive sites including Palancar Shallow, Paradise Reef, and Santa Rosa. For deeper sites like Colombia Deep and Palancar Deep, Advanced Open Water is recommended. We also offer Discover Scuba Diving on Cozumel's shallow reefs for non-certified divers.

We primarily offer Cozumel trips from Playa del Carmen and nearby areas (Puerto Aventuras, Puerto Morelos) due to logistics. From Tulum or Cancun, the drive to the marina adds significant time. However, we can arrange pickup from these locations for an early-departure Cozumel trip — contact us to discuss.

Combine With Cenote Diving

The Riviera Maya is the only place on Earth where you can dive ancient underground cenote caverns and vibrant Caribbean reefs in the same vacation. Add a cenote dive day for the complete experience.
